Accounts with real names
NEAR accounts can be human-readable names like alice.near.
On most blockchains your address looks like 0x71C7…976F. On NEAR you can have a name like alice.near, so sending money feels like sending an email.
Accounts can also make sub-accounts: savings.alice.near belongs to alice.near. Apps use the same idea, like ftv2.nekotoken.near for the NEKO token.
Some wallets start you with an implicit account: a 64-character code. It works exactly the same, it just isn't as pretty.
